During the seminar most time was spend on Dinos Ioannou pitch with “lecturing” being replaced with interesting drills, hockey games and practice sessions taking place. Most of the participants had the chance to get some coaching time on Saturday morning with the associations’ youth academy, under the directions of Mr. Hoeben. Everybody who attended the seminar had the chance to get a good grasp of the basic coaching knowledge needed as well as improve their own technical and tactical approach to the game.

While the seminar was taken place every afternoon from 14:30 until 17:00, Mr. Hoeben along with association members visited different schools in the mornings teaching kids all about hockey.

The association would like to thank Mr. Hoeben for his valuable contribution on making this seminar a success and for the wealth of information provided during its course.

The chosen video web platform for the FIH Rules of Hockey Video Library is Dartfish. They are a company which specialises in the development of software for video analysis. Using this platform, FIH now has its own Rules of Hockey Video Library, which may be accessed via the following link: -

The first set of approximately 35 video clips has been uploaded to the Video Library, in order that users can familiarize themselves with both the Library and the Dartfish platform. Each video has a description of the applicable Rule or Rules. In the Information provided with each video, the actual wording of the Rule or Rules can be found, together with any relevant guidance. The interpretation of each incident is included, along with the appropriate slide or slides from the FIH Umpires Briefing for 2011. In the time-line for each video the ‘key moments’ are indexed.

The target audiences for the Video Library are primarily umpires, umpire managers, umpire coaches and umpiring course conductors at all levels. The resource, of course, will also be of interest to players and coaches.

David Collier, Chair of the Hockey Rules Board, commented  ‘We try to write the Rules as clearly as possible but recognise that viewing and working through a video example which features detailed explanations as well as the opportunity to replay the action is a good way of really understanding the Rules. This collaboration with the FIH Umpiring Committee therefore provides a valuable resource for umpires in particular but also for anyone who needs to know the Rules and their correct application’.

The Chair of the FIH Umpiring Committee, Ermanno Silvano, said ‘The FIH Rules of Hockey Video Library is a great step forward to trying to achieve a common interpretation of the Rules across the hockey world.  The potential of the Dartfish platform is enormous and I’m sure that the hockey community will benefit greatly from this new resource. We intend to add new videos to the Library on a regular basis in the coming months’.

The teams went into the second half of the game with the score remaining 1-1 but it was Antonis Efthymiou who gave the lead to his team after a well placed drag flick on the right top corner of the goal. The final score was then structured by Andreas Lazarides after a quick counter attack from his side which gave him the opportunity to net the ball from a close distance for his team.

The English School team had every reason to be happy with their overall display in the match achieving their first win in a Founders Day match after more than two decades.

We are happy to inform you that we have managed to receive an grant from the IOC ( International Olympic Committee ) to hold a Coaching Seminar from the 24th – 28th of November 2010.

The Seminar is under the auspices of the Cyprus Olympic Committe and the FIH. The facilitator will be Mr. Bert Bunnik from Great Britain, as recomended by the FIH.

Certificates will handed out at the end of the Seminar, signed by Jacques Rogge, President of the IOC

We will have more details as regards the programme in a few days. The Seminar will be held in the afternoons at the Dinos Ioannou pitch / Olympic Building in Nicosia. Trying to organise also a day in Episkopi, as we will hopefully have participations from that side of the island.

In the mornings we will be visiting Schools to do Hockey presentations there.

Last Sunday’s tournament at Dinos Ioannou pitch kicked off this year’s hockey season in the local competitions. A total of eight mixed teams participated in two pools of four, with the first two of each pool proceeding to the semifinals. Hocks A and ESOBGA A faced against each other in the final which declared Hocks A the winning team.

Cyprus U16, lost today. But with not without fighting. Down in numbers we had to play Maximos our second goalkeeper out in the field and all injured players. Costa played an entire match with his pulled hamstring, not letting up at any moment.

Bulgaria, well they had a full team, bench and an association supporting them. Yet only managed to score 4 goals. Had we had our initial team, even with the injuries, without a doubt the Cyprus U16 would have triumphed again.

So final score:

Cyprus 0 – Bulgaria 4, at half time the score was 0-3, so Bulgaria only managed to score a single goal in the second half. To me the Cyprus U16 were the winners and Bulgaria losers. To only manage 4 goals in a full managed against 9 players, in utterly useless.

Cyprus U16, came up with yet another win against Romania. This has being was on the best fought matches I’ve seen in a while (not being biased ). Both teams were equally poised and well prepared. But is was our boys that had more determination, belief and discipline, with these they managed to achieve victory for Cyprus.

On the 26th June they plan in the first Semi-Final of the tournament Cyprus – Bulgaria. The match start at 13h00.
Today’s goal is able for view in the photo gallery, as are a few other goals.

Cyprus U16, made history today by achieving the first ever victory in international hockey for Cyprus, this was done with team work and togetherness.
With total of eight different goal scores and zero goals conceded. With the final score of their first U16 international match was Cyprus 17 FYROM 0.
Although it has to be said the FYROM team was younger and definitely not as prepared as our boys. It does go to show the commitment they have given to hockey,
over the last couple of months/years is worthwhile for Hockey.

We now look forward to the next match official match on Friday, against Romania, in the meantime the team will be playing a friendly match against the
umpires and veteran’s tomorrow. The team is really enjoying themselves so far and this latest result has only added to that enjoyment.
